Getty Foundation’s Conserving Canvas Initiative

The Getty Foundation has launched a new initiative, Conserving Canvas, with the aim of ensuring that the critical conservation skills needed to care for paintings on canvas are not lost.

Grants will be awarded through this initiative to support international opportunities for sharing knowledge and best practice. These will include projects to undertake conservation of paintings, workshops, seminars, training residencies, and a major symposium.

We are delighted to announce that a Getty grant has been awarded to bring pairs of conservators-curators to the College of Arts and The Hunterian at the University of Glasgow for training workshops and individual month-long residencies related to the conservation of five canvas paintings from The Hunterian and the National Galleries of Scotland, including Sir Joshua Reynolds’s Lady Maynard (c.1759-60).
